Introducing Device Registration
Device Registration limits the number of devices that a user can use to access their account via the Sprout HR mobile app. This feature primarily prevents buddy punching to ensure that all attendance logs only come from the registered mobile device. Those who regularly use banking apps may be familiar with this feature.
Registering your Device
Upon downloading and accessing the newest version of the mobile app, you will be prompted that your device has been successfully registered to your Sprout account.
Managing your Devices
You can manage your registered devices by clicking Devices > Registered Devices in the app menu.
Unlinking your Device
From your Home Screen, go to Devices. From your Registered Devices, select the device that you want to unlink. You will be prompted the duration of the cool-down period and the device is successfully unlinked.
What is the Cooldown Period?
When a user deletes (unregisters) a device from his or her profile, the cooldown period starts. During this period, the device that was unregistered cannot be added by that employee or another employee in the same company. When it expires, that device then can be added again.
Troubleshooting Guide
1. I cannot register my device because it is already linked to another user.
There 2 ways this can be resolved:
-
- If you know the person who previously owned the device, reach out to him/her and have log in to the device and unlink it. Wait for the cool-down period to expire then try logging in using your own account to log in again.
- You can submit the Device Specific ID found on the error prompted to you on the mobile app to your HR Admin. This ID will be submitted to Sprout Support for manual deletion.
2. I cannot register my device because it is currently on the cooldown period.
Wait for the cooldown period to expire before registering it again on your account. The default cooldown period is 24 hours.
3. I cannot register my device because I already reached the maximum device limit.
Please note that each HR account is only allowed to have 1 device registered, by default. This is to prevent buddy-punching, but don't worry as this can still be increased! Keep on reading the Admin FAQs to know more.
