By default, all regular and probationary employees added to the system are automatically assigned to the Default Plans (VL, SL, and Birthday Leave) in Sprout HR, but there are some clients who would wish to unassign some employees from the Default plans for different reasons.
There are two ways how to unassign employees from the Default Leave plans. The first is to create a new Leave Plan within the same Leave Type. The second is to create a separate Leave Type.
1. Create a new Leave Plan under the same Leave type: How to Create a Leave Plan within a Leave Type.
The created plan will then be added below the Default Plan:
Upon creation of the new plan, you can already set the rules (if any), but if you're not yet familiar with this, you can use this KB article as a guide as well with the Leave policy questions: Understanding Leave Policy Questions.
Once done, you can proceed with manually assigning the employees to the plan by clicking the Assign Plan and then selecting the employees. Don’t forget to click save.
Doing this will automatically unassign the employees from the Default Plans. Here’s a sample:
Form 25 employees were assigned to Default Plan, it’s now down to 17 since 8 employees have been assigned to the new plan.
In addition, there are other ways to assign the employees in the new Leave Plan created which you can refer to here: How to Assign Employees to Standard Leave Plans.
2. Fully unassign the employees on the Default Leave plan by creating a new Leave Type (How to Create a New Leave Type).
After or during the creation of the new Leave Type, you may do the same from the above steps in setting up leave policies and assigning employees to the plan.
Deactivating the Default leave plan is optional (How to Deactivate Leave Types). If you still wish some employees to use and be automatically assigned to the Default Plan, you may keep it.
But if it's okay for you to assign the employee manually using the newly created Separate Plan, then you may deactivate the Default Plan.
There you go! If you have other questions, please let us know.
