One of Sprout HR's safety features that help keep your account secured and protected is the auto log-out. While using Sprout HR, you might have noticed that after several minutes of inactivity, you were automatically logged-out from the system. This is because of the set minutes (default: 40 minutes) for the idle timeout.
Idle timeout is defined as the number of minutes of idle time until an Application Pool is recycled. Recycling the Application Pool frees resources, but saves cached data for when the site is requested again. To put it simply, if you're inactive on Sprout HR for 40 minutes or more, you will automatically be logged-out from the system. However, if you log back in less than 120 minutes, your session will be restored.
For example, you were editing an employee's profile on Sprout HR, but your account was automatically logged-out due to inactivity. If you log back in less than 120 minutes, you will be redirected to the Employee Profile (previous session).
Idle timeout should not be confused with session timeout. Session timeout determines how long until a session is valid (default: 120 minutes). If you fail to log back in less than 120 minutes, your previous session will expire and another session will begin.
For example (same scenario as before), if you log back in after more than 120 minutes, you will no longer be redirected to the Employee Profile. Since your previous session already expired, you will be directed to the Dashboard, as usual.
I hope this information helps!
