Section 2 of the Presential Decree 143 defines Rest Day Work: In cases of force majeure, public emergencies, serious accidents, and other exceptional cases as determined by the Secretary of Labor, any employee may be required to work on his scheduled rest day even if it falls on a Sunday or holiday, provided they will be given an additional compensation.
Sprout HR, being a well-rounded platform for Philippine HR and Payroll caters this setup. The employees just need to file the correct applications and render work. Once the said applications were approved and supported by proof of attendance, it is guaranteed that they will receive the corresponding rest day premiums.
In nature, Rest Day Work indeed is considered an Overtime as employees render work beyond their usual shift schedules. As such, employees expect their rest day work to be tagged as Overtime in the system.
Now, the question remains. How does the Sprout HR System reflect Rest Day Work and how does it become a Rest Day Overtime? Here’s a sample Attendance Report to know more!
Employee A
Rest Day Shift: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Saturday)
Break Hours: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Logs: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Attendance Report:
If you will notice on the image above, only 8 hours are credited to the Employee and it is reflected under the RD Column of the Attendance Report.
Why is it not reflecting on the RD-OT Column of the said report? This is because the system defines over time as the work rendered beyond the Employee’s actual shift for the day.
In this case, the Overtime Hours to be filed should be 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Let’s see how the Attendance Report would reflect the said hours if correctly filed as an Overtime.
The breakdown is as follows:
- 8 RD Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM less than 1-hour unpaid break
- 5 RD-OT Hours: 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM (5 RD-OT Hours)
