Here is one of the most common concerns experienced by users: an admin with access to the Access Level portion of the Employee Profile has unlocked a locked account, but the employee concerned hasn't received any email. Sounds familiar?
The most likely culprit: email suppression.
There are several types of email suppression. Let's briefly discuss the most basic ones here.
1. Bounced
- Definition: The most common type of email suppression. A bounced email is an email message rejected by a recipient’s mail server and returned to the original sender.
- Most common cause/s:
- The email address no longer exists.
- The email address is invalid (typo, etc).
- The mail domain mentioned in the email address doesn’t exist.
2. Spam
- Definition: Another term for junk email. Spams are unsolicited bulk messages sent through email.
- Most common cause/s:
- Low open rates: Web providers often look at how emails are opened and how many are deleted without being opened as a factor in their spam filtering decisions. Emails with low open rates are at higher risk of being flagged as spam.
- The recipient has reported the email sender as spam.
3. Blocks
- Definition: the receiving server denied the message, but the address is not suppressed by SendGrid moving forward
- Most common cause/s:
- The content of the email contains elements the email provider deems 'spammy'.
- There was a technical issue that occurred between the two servers at the time the email has been sent.
In order to prevent emails from being suppressed, contact your IT Department to whitelist the domains from Sprout's email service.
